Theme :
Opportunities and Challenges of Agricultural Biotechnology in Developing Countries
Organized by:
Bangladesh Association for Plant Tissue Culture & Biotechnology (BAPTC&B)
The Bangladesh Association for Plant Tissue Culture & Biotechnology (BAPTC&B) has so far organized five international conferences since its inception in 1989 to promote Plant Biotechnology regionally and globally and to popularize this science to commercial entrepreneurs as well as policy makers. Eight workshops with hands-on training in Plant Tissue Culture, Transformation and DNA markers for crop improvement were also organized by BAPTC&B. Due to these activities, BAPTC&B has been acting as a cohesive force to keep scientists aware of current trends in Plant Biotechnology, enabling them to put it to use for crop improvement programs for the benefit of the country. Several commercial Tissue Culture Companies have been established due to the interest generated; some among them are now in a position to market tissue culture derived products. The proceedings of two of our conferences have been published by Oxford and IBH Publishing Co., New Delhi .
BAPTC&B members including those who participated in our last conference; i.e., the Fifth International Conference will be pleased to know that the submitted abstracts will be published at the Association's website online ( http://www.baptcb.org) before the conference. We have already received commitments of participation from a good many number of countries. We hope that the enthusiastic response from the global community of plant tissue culture- and biotech disciplines, will prompt others to decide to attend this conference, not only to present their findings but also to exchange their views about various pressing problems such as those on GM crops , biosafety and intellectual property rights.
Looking forward to seeing you in Dhaka aroundpast April 11, 2008 .
Language : English will be the working language of the Conference.
