Preparation for
fourth
International Plant Tissue Culture Conference
Austin Oct-30-01: Preparation
for the 4th International Tissue Culture Conference to
commence on the first through 3rd of November, is almost complete. The
organizers under the leadership of Professor Syed Hadiuzzaman, President
of
BAPTC (the Bangladesh Association of Plant Tissue Culture), ably assisted
by
Professor Rakha Hari Sarker, the General Secretary of the Association and
Dr. Imdadul Hoque, the Organizing Secretary, have done an excellent job.
The publication part of the
conference has been very skillfully handled by Professor M. Mozammel Haque
- the
veteran and experienced executive editor of the Association's journal,
"Plant Tissue Culture".
The 11th September
American human tragedy did not dampen the spirit of the
organizers and they went on with the arrangements against the wishes of
many
who advised them to postpone it. Looking at the admirable arrangement, the
organizers have made against all odds, it now seems that the
decision they
took was well-advised.
A number of foreign delegates have already arrived on the scene. One of
them is Dr.
Mohsin Patwary, who arrived from New York to chair one of the
important
sessions on "Transgenic plants for sustainable crop
production". Dr.
Patwary is one the Department’s brilliant ex-students who has already
earned
a good name in the USA and Canada for his valuable contribution to
genetical
research in algae.
